I think for me the people you meet here make the place. It remind me of home and that I love very much.
Mining is the name of the game here and these folks are hard working, have a cool midwestern accent (LIKE WE DO EH), love beer, and eat/sleep/drink hockey. Just like home ❤
This was an impromptu trip and I loved every second of it. I got to explore this time by myself and the weather was beautiful and the sun was out….thank you sweet baby Jesus and vitamin D.
Came in hot Wednesday early afternoon.
First stop – Wilbert’s Cafe & El Toro Lounge. KILLER BREAKFAST.
9105 US-53, Cotton, MN 55724 – We stopped here on our way up to Hibbing. Food was awesome and our server was really nice and knowledgeable about the history of the joint. Forgot to take a picture I was absolutely starving – you’ll have that.

I sat on the restaurant side. Wonderful place, small town cafe vibe. Staff were quick to sit and quick to server.
Simple – Breakfast #3 with a Blueberry Pancake……last part is crucial. This place doesn’t fuck around about their blueberry pancakes. You have been told….

I got the Smokehouse Street Tacos – smoked brisket with charred jalapeno, crispy fried onions, cheddar, and raspberry chipotle drizzle. Everything is good at this place. Oh also cannot forget….ice cold latte draft.
Friday we spent the evening with our friends and they made us a seafood bake which turned out heavenly! Pat is always cheffin good stuff! I will say he tried to kill me this time with boxed wine which would explain why he had to put me to bed LOL shit happens.
We have arrived at Saturday….my last full day here. This is always my last hurrah because typically me and my significant other love of my life baybay won’t see each other for quite some time after these wonderful trips.
Lets circle back to Pat trying to kill me with boxed wine. We had scheduled a sushi date in GR with our friends but that didn’t happen.
Once I was well enough to breath the outside air we ventured out to get medicine.

Little history about this place…..I meet Demetri and his pops owns the joint and he works here basically 24/7. Cool ass dude – they are from Greece and bought the place in the 70’s and have been turnin and burnin ever since. We bonded over epic 80’s/90’s music. He’s a character that you would never forget. I’m glad we crossed paths.
Like I said….peeps are from Greece. They know Greek Food.
Souvlaki – Greek shish kabob with pita bread, Greek salad, and spanakopita. I can’t even remember what the hell Chris got because this was the shit. End of story…Μπράβο!
Stop 2 – Palmer’s Tavern – Cool little sports bar. Lovely staff and they have food. I sampled the draft latte’s and cardboard cocaine. I did not do well with the pull tabs….until we meet again.

Stop 3 – Checco’s – LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this place. Its dark….dated….very 70’s vibe. Mind you this is the afternoon so we got all the old timers in here enjoying the shit out of life. This is the address 1803 3rd Ave E…..Checco’s doesn’t have no bitch ass website its cool.
Stop 4 – Homer Bar – Might be my favorite here. Dylan the bartender is awesome. Tons of tabs. Touchtunes Jukebox ( I spent ALOT of moola here)
Stop 5 – Sammy’s Pizza. We order all the food and 100% do not forget the sausage pizza. Spin artichoke dip, wings, big Italian stromboli and some Amaretto cheesecake for good measure. Ain’t nobody goin hungry tonight!
